  • That is a difficult question to answer, because of many factors: time of day, what type of aircraft (commercial airlines, general aviation, military) and location (US, worldwide). Overall, there are typically thousands of aircraft in the air around the world at any time. An interesting way to look at some of them is flightaware.com. Look at "statistics" for a one-day example.
  • As of February 8, 2007 2:20PM, there is a total of 5,549 non military flights in the United States alone. flightaware.com
  • Impossible to say. The CAA could tell you how many they have in the air but all the private planes it would be impossible like trying to assess how many flies are about. Also i would be surprised if the military would give accurate imformation
