  • I think it's best to stay with the plane because the search party will be looking for the plane.
  • Stay with the plane. It can e spotted from the air quicker than you will by walking around. There are also electronic devices in some aircraft that will send out a signal so it can be located in case of an emergency.
  • Unless your life is in immediate danger, never leave the aircraft site. A swath of wreckage and maybe even burned grasses, etc is much more visible to aerial searchers than a lone figure trudging in a random direction. Think about it. You have more survival supplies represented by the aircraft than you can carry or find elsewhere: Shelter - inside the plane cabin. If parachutes are available, one can be used for a tent or to bundle up in as a sleeping bad in cold weather. Reflective signalling devices - shine up the interior bare metal surfaces of the plane's skin and use as a signal mirror. The bigger the better. Visual signalling - drain oil from the engine and put pieces of rubber from the tires into any kind of container (existing or made from plane parts) and set it alight during daylight hours. If parachutes were in the plane, open one up, spread it out, and weigh it down with rocks to form a giant signal panel. Crude tools - fashioned from plane parts Communications - the battery and radio systems may have survived the crash. The plilot should have left it set on the frequency used by local air traffic control, so you could use it to contact aerial searchers. Use sparingly, but on a regular schedule, a 1-2 minute call-and-listen every 30 minutes during the daylight hours or anytime you hear an airplane engine.
