I would like it very much.
-
Can i ask what is Chatspeak?
-
i hate it!
-
Do u mean lyk this? It's annoying, pointless and it's not worth the time it saves because you have to answer to people complaining about it (probably me)
-
I can't stand it when people try to make it look cool by typing that way. It just makes them look stupid.
-
I don't like it and I don't use it.
-
i like it i m not going to tell someone how they shld type like some ppl have done to me and its ur choice on the matter +++
-
I hate it. They try to look so cool by showing what they know and I am sorry but if I have to read it more than once to figure out what it says, I don't answer it. These are the people who will ask a question and then later ask "why is nobody answering". DUH!!
-
Chatspeak???? I wonder what that is.
-
i would prefer proper spelling and grammar.

I detest it. I find it something I have to stop and decipher. No one can tell me that it is any faster than typing normally and convince me. I know how hard it is for many to read, especially those for whom English is a second language. If someone posts on this site in Spanish, French, Japanese, or any other language, it is flagged as nonsense. Yet that almost gobbledygook is allowed and defended. To me, you either speak the common language of the site, unless you have a disability that inhibits you, or you should not speak. Period.

I am dyslexic. I CAN read the chatspeak questions with some difficulty and will if it is not excessive. If it is bad I do not see a need to translate a question or answer to English considering that this is a primarily English speaking board and not a chatroom. Were it a chatroom I would expect chatspeak. I consider excessive use of chatspeak to be rude because we have many members who do not speak English as a first language and I am not the only dyslexic. If someone makes an effort to write correctly and is just plain not good at it I am much more tolerant. It is the purposeful mangling of the English language to be "cool" that annoys me. Using chatspeak, to me, makes the person look generally less intelligent. They could write a fantastic question or answer, just brilliant, and still look not terribly bright because it is full of chatspeak. If someone, for whatever reason, has caught my eye and interest, I shall go to more efforts to read their writing if they use it. My annoyance with chatspeak is dependent on the individual using it. It always makes a bad first impression with me, however. I might change my mind later but that is my first impression.

It's a pretty useful time saver honestly. It allows me to quickly identify stupid people who are likely asking stupid questions.
-
I tend to skip past the questions without reading as soon as I see it, as I assume it is going to be something childish along the lines of "this guy rite, e snogged me n asked me 2 marry him, do u think he likes me?" i don't mind spelling mistakes or imperfect grammar as mine isn't exactly perfect nowadays, but not when it is just laziness or trying to be cool.

I would like to make a general statement about the shorthand writing that some people use. Granted it takes a little concentration to read it but consider the creativity of the person using it. I don't think its ever meant to offend. It's just a fun way to write. Anyone who's followed any of my entries knows I consider grammer and spelling to be very important but when someone uses the chatspeak I think that that shows intelligence and creativity and is not in the same realm as someone who just slaughters the language. There is an art to chatspeak so when you denegrate the people using it you are truly hurting their feelings as much as if you wrote a poem or a song or made a painting and someone came along after and said, "what the hell is that garbage." Hey, ever had that happen? Since I do speed writing I can understand it fairly easily so maybe that's why I can be a little more understanding of the person using it. But, I will tell you this, if you ever have to write notes when someone is speaking and you know how to do this you will really be grateful. I wish that I would have known it when I was going to school. It is way faster. Do you know that in the original written languages from thousands of years ago, the vowels were left out anyhow. It's only in the past two thousand years or so that it became a necessity. So which is really lazy? Not writing it or not using your mind to interpret it? Anyhow, this is just an opinion. Hope you don't mind. The thing that bothers me most is that the same people who complain about this are some of the same people who talk about tolerance. Just food for thought. God bless you.

Quite a few years ago, when I got my first computer, I spent a lot of time in chat. I did use it then, and there are a few bits here and there that I do still use (like LOL, or OMG), but for the most part, I can't stand it. It's almost more annoying than people who type in all caps or people who just don't even try to use proper grammar or spelling. I know there are folks whose first language is not English, and some young people still in school. But that chatspeak honestly gets on my last nerve. I wonder...is it laziness? They can't spell? Most of the time, I will completely ignore it. A lot of the time it's so bad it looks like complete nonsense.
