As a child I would leave the big city and often work on my grandfather's farm for the summer holidays. He had everything, wheat, hay, cows, bulls, pigs, horses, geese, and chickens.

I did for 3 years and loved the hard work and the freedom!

Scott and I worked on his parents farm when we got together 20 years ago.We milked on weekends and hayed to have extra money. Our jobs paid low at that time and we were poor....really poor because we were remodling the old house. This city boy loved it.Scott grew up with it his whole life. But hunny that is my front yard! We have to hay it 2-3 times a year.We sell the hay to local people with horses or cows. The smell is so nice when you cut the hay.....

First of all thanks for reminding me my childhood days when I used to work in a farm with my granny.Making a child work was a real crime but, that's how the landlord gave us money and I needed that to keep my granny going.

Absolutely! Some of the best times of my life! We had a 600 acre hog farm, and we raised our own pork, beef, chicken, vegetables, milk, eggs, ... it was a fantastic way of life! I wish everyone could spend one year on a working farm, to see what all is involved in getting the food to your table. While the work can be extremely hard, it is VERY rewarding and educational. I hope to do it again, someday soon.
