im not for glorifying celebrities either. but maybe it was just a tragedy? an accidental overdose is entirely possible
-
I see what you mean, but I have become indifferent about it because I know it's just the media. I bet if he wasn't in The Dark Knight, he wouldn't be in the spotlight so much.
-
I hear what you are saying. However, if he did win an award then his poor daughter would take some comfort from a tragic situation and that's a good thing.
-
i agree he is just another star but he did work hard for the award and i think he deserves it
-
He does deserve one for his role as the joker....As for the drug use that is a disease.I respect you Police.
-
I didn't watch the cowboy movie or any other movie he was in, so I never knew who he was until he died, then his name was all over the tv news, papers, radio.. so I agree. Not the daughters fault though, I just hope if he does win, it isn't just a sympathy vote. It would probably help his daughter to accept for him.
-
He was good, but a long way from being that good. Just show is all it is. Awards do not mean anything anymore as they just hand them out to anybody. Popular and not still or talent.
-
It is getting old. If he wasn't dead they would not rave about any of this crap. I look at it this way. Had he not wasted his time on mindless drug use he would still be here with his daughter. Yea I feel bad for his kiddo but enough is enough! He is being put high on this pedestal that he does not deserve. If it were anyone else but a celeb he would have been long forgotten.
-
We seem to honor bad exampes. WHY! Bad behavior get a wards? DUMB!
-
No, I don't. I think he was a good actor, and he deserves that award. And if his daughter accepts it, then brilliant, she's the best person to.
-
I know it's just me making up conspiracy theories, but I almost think that Heath Ledger may have been murdered simply to get more publicity to the Dark Night in the first place (to reel in yet more viewers, more money).
-
No, I don't think it's ludicrous. Other people, mostly family members have accepted awards in behalf of winners that couldn't attend for different reasons (death being the tragic case here). If it happens it wouldn't be the first time. The fact that his final role was very memorable and the movie garnered great reviews and was a big box office hit has much to do with all the media attention as well.
-
No, I think one of his family members should accept for him. There may be something I am unaware of that's could be odd, but not family accepting the award.
-
I do not believe in idol worship. Heath Ledger was a fine actor, but he has had his day to prove himself and the legacy that he left behind should be admired and respected, and that's about it. I am tired of idolizing actors both dead and alive, especialy ones whose careers are only marked by a few films and accomplishments. Many people toil away at their careers doing great things, but THEY never get recognized at all. Hollywood humbug!

He was in good actor in TDK and The Patriot, but it's quite annoying already. Get ready for Round 2... The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (2009) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1054606/ Check out the cast vs. character

Yeah, I have to agree. Somehow if your an "artist" (writer, painter, actor, etc.) it's "O.K." to abuse drugs or alcohol for the creativity it supposedly generates. I guess it doesn't matter that your just as dead as the skid row junkie that chokes on his own vomit.
-
You know what? I totally agree with you here! I get sick of people glamorizing stars who destroy their lives with drugs, Heath Ledger is just the latest in a long line of people who have been elevated to almost hero status because of their untimely deaths do to drug abuse. Elvis, Hank Williams, John Belushi, John Candy, River Phoenix and now Heath Ledger. Instead of glorifying these peoples lives they should show them with their faces turned purple and drowning in their own vomit from drug overdose as a shining example of how NOT to live your life. You really hit on something that irritates me. I have seen so many lives destroyed by drugs I really have a problem with the virtual reverence they hold these stars in who wasted their lives.
-
I think he does deserve the award, but I'm not sure his daughter should accept it. Usually a co-star or producer or manager does that job. It sounds like exploitation to me.
-
Well he was a GREAT actor, and regardless that he is dead - he deserves recognition for his acting while alive. I dont expect to see his past films winning after this year, so dont worry :D
