i don't know the date but the reason they changed the name to Taiwan was it was taking to long to stamp MADE IN THE PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CHINA on the bottom of every thing ever mass produced in the world EVER...

In the 70's I believe. The ROC walked out when the PROC walked in. The PROC(People's Republic of China) is the communist mainland China. The ROC(Republic of China) is Taiwan Taiwan was not replaced either. They walked out and refused to be a member if the PROC was a member.
