I think they are very aware of it.

All manipulation is always done by any one with an eye on personal gain. Normal course of events are interfered with and altered very much on purpose. Threfore manipulation is very much a voluntary action and the manipulators are very much aware of what they are doing. However there are two kinds of manipulations : legal and illegal. Legal manipulations - genetic engineering for instance - benefit the society and the mankind in the long term. It is the illegal manipulation of events that we are concerened about and in this someone always looses. These are punishable criminal activities offenses.

Depends what you consider manipulation. We all manipulate to get things we want, sell retail or wholesale, make deals with our kids for them to do what we want if negotiation doesn't make it. Our whole society is based on it. Do we manipulate the ones we love and love us. As little as possible; we negotiate and do things we both want. I don't thing most people realize how much manipulation goes on. Just watch your TV commercials. Manipulate you to want something you don't need, to buy mine instead of there's, etc. I think we know when we do it in our personal lives but still do it at times. It is the basis of our economy. To be manipulated to "keep up with the Jones", etc.
-
Most do, some don't. They know they try to get people to do what they want but they don't consider it to be manipulative.
-
I believe they are and they enjoy it.

There are some maladies, such as Borderline Personality Disorder, which produce what amounts to manipulation of others. However, the sufferer is unaware of the manipulative behavior and believes he/she is merely advocating for an issue believed to be prudent. The problem, of course, is whether or not the issue is prudent.

If they (occasionally) do, they don't much care anyway. ;-)
