  • I follow a bit of the marime Romaniya ("purity laws") but I do not think I follow the odd ones. I bathe according to the marime Romaniya, for instance: wash with two cloths (one for upper body, one for lower), no tub baths, only showers (tub bath water is unclean). My hair is to my arse which is not part of the marime Romaniya but the choice to cut or not cut a guys hair at coming of age is kind of traditional amongst older generations in my Clan (not many Clans have this one). This is a family one: I do not, and never have, used chemicals or heat products on my hair, including a blow drier (shampoo, conditioner, and olive oil only for 46 years) and I do not use artificial scents... period (ok other than deodorant). I use pure essential oils for scent. Another one from my Clan (the old folks): I do not believe in permanently altering my body although I LOVE seeing the creative things others do with theirs (like the Lizardman, etc... I am kind of a BME and bodymod affictionado). I DO have one piercing and have had more but those are not permanent. I am thinking of getting a tattoo though. I also hold some of the very traditional beliefs of my people. Gadje do not tend to hold these beliefs. For example I believe that my Ancestors "walk" with me and guide me. Another one: I cringe when I see a Roma woman displaying herself like is normal today with so many women. I am a modern man but when I see a Roma woman do it my mind hollers "marime!" I know, I know, that shows that I am not so modern and have a double standard.
