Have any of you parents ever discovered your own children aren't the people you thought they would be?

yes and I have mixed feelings about it. My daughter is too similar too me. More than i thought possible. This is good in some ways. She's absolutely brilliant and even more arrogant than me. This is a blessing and a curse.

No. I have one son and he has exceeded all my expectations in every regard, and I expected much. I know..I'm way lucky! :) ((hugs))

My ex and I raised five children, three from her first marriage and two from ours. One thing I decided early on was to have as few expectations when they were little about who they would become as adults. We encouraged them to develop their own skills, whatever those might be, and encouraged them in whatever career in which they became interested. They all turned out to be really good people with careers they enjoy, so apparently we did something right. : )

Oh, yeah. Thought they were way different than things turned out. Not happy with the surprises, either.
