People are often contemptuous to those that have diverse opinions. It is a part of some humans behaviour to feel antipathy to those that argue or disagree with something we believe, So I would have to say that diversity which although is in itself IMO more interesting. it does breed more contempt than peaceful coexistance.

I do not see where diversity is mutually exclusive from peaceful coexistence. Any discussion of peaceful coexistence is entirely theoretical, because it really hasn't happened in the written history of the human race. We have been warring each other for one reason or another constantly for countless millenia. Even within single societies, would you consider slavery peaceful coexistence? Other examples abound. I'd rather have both, but you have to admit to and take into consideration the diversity of the human race in order to peacefully coexist. If you don't, what you really have is suppression of other groups by one or more group(s). I hardly call that peaceful coexistence. Suppression and oppression should not be mistaken for peaceful coexistence.
