It's not a parania, it's an unsettling feeling that I'm going to get pulled over and have to deal with an officer from another agnency who is less than professional. I had it happen twice already. Then when I identify myself as an officer, they turn on their charm and apologise.

I used to get really nervous when I first got my license.

Now I never do, unless I'm speeding. Probably cause I drive like an old lady now that I have a kid.

I do, but I have no reason to feel that way. I am a law abiding citizen and my tags/stickers are always current and my vehicles are in good repair. I have no idea why it makes me feel the way it does.

Only the pure of heart and clean of conscious can drive in front of a police car and not be paranoid. Also able to drive in front of a police car and not worry are, very senior politians, mayors, police chiefs, police persons partner, and anybody else not actually doing anything wrong.

Well, I'd just calm down and watch the dashboard, unless he's got the siren on, then I'd hit the brake and pull over.

I get self-conscious, but the fact that they are there shouldn't affect how you are driving unless you know you were doing something wrong.

Not so much paranoid, but you are more aware of being watched, therefore you are overly cautious with your driving.

No. My first car was a sportscar, MGA. I got a ticket once a month whether I needed it or not. I went to court and with only one exception (he lied) I got the ticket tossed. I learned that most police are very unskilled observers. One pulled me over for changing lanes too often. I pointed out that I changed lanes to avoid the furniture van which was parked in the right lane under the NO PARKING ANY TIME signs. He went around it too but had to look back to see it.

this doesn't really help if the police car is already behind you..but whenever i see a police car i get behind them! it's interesting too, to see how many laws they themselves break.

I don't know if it's full bore paranoia, but I get a bit antsy. I start wondering if my taillights are fully legal or if one has burned out....same with the brake lights.

I check the speedometer, just to make sure.

I usually drive like a kid taking drivers' ed in school--very, very carefully.

Only when the lights and siren come on and he follows me to the side of the road.

    ****************
"geek860: lol. Then you start thinkin what did I do wrong eh? I feel for ya. been there."

There has only been one time when I got to wondering what I did wrong when I was pulled over. That was the first time that it happened. This occurred on a New Year's Eve. I had gone to the video store to try to rent a video (it was closed). On the way back home, I got pulled over because I was driving too cautiously. (I was afraid of all the potential drunks that might be on the road.) The officer talked to me just a little bit and then let me go. She did not even bother with the field sobriety test because she could tell from the conversation that I was not intoxicated. I had noticed her riding my bumper a few minutes before she pulled me over and was getting ready to pull over the side (because I was afraid that she was a drunk) just as she had turned on her lights. Add to this the fact that I have never been intoxicated, and I still find the whole incident rather amusing.

The other two times I have been pulled over, I knew why when the lights came on. I had been going just a bit over the speed limit.

They have yet to even pin a ticket on me. I am an obsessive speed limit follower though (yes you probably hate my driving - and yes I have been pulled over for going to slow).
Still get paranoid every time - but I have seen police beat the hell out of people - and have known police men that well are shaky - I used to work in an office with some attorneys that defended drug dealer types - so I am aware of the payoff system in that town - ans what goes with it.

Anyway - yes even to the point of pulling over and letting them pass.

    I think everyone does.

All I can do when that happens is think "Don't screw up, don't screw up!"

Its funny because I'm 24 years old and I've never been pulled over for speeding or traffic violations.

Only time the cops pulled me over was when my old car was leaking gas.

No, unless they follow too close, then I move over. Sometimes I get annoyed that they may pull me over and make me late for an appointment or something for no reason, it always takes 10 minutes for them to let me go again with no tickets...

Last 3 times I was pulled over, they made up an excuse that wasn't valid.
"Thought your tags were expired" they were up to date on the rear plate.
"I don't think you used your blinker" I always do.
    and they appolozied immediately.
"I think your passenger door isn't fully shut" yes it was, or I would get a warning light.

I have absolutely no reason to be paranoid about a police car in my rear view mirror, but I still find myself trying to get out of that position - change lanes, make a turn, etc.

no, just pisses me off cause then I can't speed, try being behind one and if he is not doing the speed limit exactly, pass him, nod as you go by, they love that, just make sure seatbelt is on and you have no outstanding warrents!

Yes, and it pisses me off having to keep one eye on the road and one eye on the speedometer to make sure i don't get me a speeding ticket costing $$$ that I can't afford to pay and don't want to have to pay. But on the plus side, it's nice to see my tax dollars being spent on hopefully the cop car catching an other speeding motorist and booking him with a $$$ fine.

Only when my registration has expired, which it is now (getting renewed tomorrow), and my window tint is "slightly" illegal, but no I don't get too paranoid. I know most of the police on the force, either because I went to school with them, or some of them are so old that they used to hang out at my dad's service station.

well no minus make sure not speeding cuz you never know when they got to fill those required amount of tickets per month now what does bother me is a cop going like 20mph below speed limit in the slow lane and everyone afraid to pass him usually i go right around as long as you are not speeding and abiding by the law they have no reason to stop you.

I usually go through a series of questions in my head.
Did I pay my car insurance?
    Am I drunk?
    Do I have my license?
Is there an open alcohol container in the car?
Are there drugs in the car?
Is there a dead body in the trunk?
Are there unidentifiable pills in the car??

If all these questions check out clean, then I turn up my music and go on my merry way.

I can't say that I get paranoid, but I don't like it. Cops seem to love to give me tickets (mainly for speeding). I have cop friends that tell me that I probably get pulled over a lot because I am "a hottie in a hot car!" They say that they pull over girls like me all of the time, just to chat with them. I guess that when the cops realize that I want nothing to do with them, then they get upset. I can't believe that my friends have told me that they do crazy things like this. It just ads to the "officer sitting in the doughnut shop" theory... And no, I'm not trying to cop bash. I do appreciate that they risk their lives for us! God knows I wouldn't do that job!
