I think it's because of ego and not wanting to come across as a wimp.

Some men do. Some women do. Nobody likes to feel vulnerable. Nobody likes to get hurt. Some people have trust issues. Any number of reasons.

Self defense and they sometimes are not capable of sorting their feelings into rational thought processes.

It's not a matter of hiding them so much as it is a difficulty expressing them.

Being surrounded by females growing up, it is all too easy for me to wear my heart on my sleeve(so to speak). Perhaps other men hide feelings because of the perception of weakness or vulnerability to show them.

i dont think they do. I think they often just dont feel what we want them to. If he doesnt say he loves yu, he probably doesnt!
