  • i have had limewire for nearly a year and have not had any viruses, but my computer does run slow when this programme is open
  • There are always chances of getting a virus when you download anything. Good virus protection/spy ware protection will take care of any viruses you pick up. I suggest Norton Internet Security.
  • yes, you can get viruses from limewire (i know it from person experience). It's not actually from limewire itself, it's from downloading the files. Someone could put a virus on there (as a music file) and you'll download it, and BAM!! you got a virus. It's that easy, and you never know... you just have to be careful and scan your computer regularly. :)
  • I have always had Macs, (since 1993), I have never had a virus.
  • Any time you download files to your computer using any program, not just Limewire, you risk that the file may be infected. What varies is the degree of risk, depending on the program / site you're using and the files you are after. Pirated movies and music have an inherently higher risk, for example. That doesn't mean every pirated movie file or song is infected, it just means the risk is typically higher. If your antivirus software is current, all updates are applied and everything is enabled, especially 'scan files on download', you are safer. Notice I didn't say 'absolutely safe'. Here's where the conversation gets back to 'practise safe computing and have good security tools in place' and you'll be as close to safest as you can get. Seriously, there's only one way to be guaranteed not to get infected. Never connect to any network (or to another computer) and never put any discs in any drives. That includes USB thumb drives and external hard drives. I'm serious.
  • It's possible. One way I've heard to safeguard yourself is to turn off all sharing so that while you can download files, nobody is uploading them from you. I dunno why it helps but it's what I've been told :)
  • It's highly possble to get spyware/viruses from limewire. But you can always get free utilites to protect your computer. I personaly use the following: For Spyware/Adware protection- http://www.adawareresource.com/co/adawareresource/?sid=M2AG0002cGS For Viruses- http://downloads-free.org/antivirus/?gclid=CLGxisjEyooCFQxDgQodpH1kcg
  • Yes you can, however why use limewire in the first place? Use torrents, for the most part its hard to get viruses off them, because torrents are normally in a user community where people can leave comments and warnings, also when using torrents, you normally get better speed because every other downloaders speed depends on their uploading speed.
  • yes, I've had many a trojan horse try to get in on limewire. I need to try this torrents thing.
  • Sure. You can also get a virus from reading your email, surfing the web, clicking on advertisments and links, and downloading files from ANYWHERE. Limewire doesn't make it any more likely that you'll get a virus. Scan your files before you open them, and you won't have any problem.
  • You can get a virus off the internet not just limewire but yeah limewire is a sure way of getting viruses.
  • You must be an employee of limewire or something. The question wasn't where can you get a virus from, it was can you get one from Limewire, therefore you just answered that you can get a virus from limewire as well. I never said not to use limewire, I still do, just that it is possible to get a viruses from the site. Ease up doobie.
  • Ihave been using Limewire for 2 days and my antivirus has pulled out 5 virus/Trojans... BEWARE!!! Always scan before you open
  • Yes. Even though the other answers are true you can get them anywhere. Limewire is like a mine field. Its like getting a cold. You can get it from anywhere, but if you in a place that almost every one that has a cold you ar more likely to get it there.
  • Yes, you can get a virus from using limewire - especially if you are using Microsoft Windows. I'd even go one step further and say if you're using limewire then you are _very likely_ to download a virus.
  • I did and it still itches.
