I was 5 years old when the USSR launched Sputnik 2 on November 3, 1957 which carried the first living passenger into orbit, a dog named Laika. The name Laika was what caught the imagination of the child in me then. I do very well remember my father reading out the news to all of us in the family and people discussing it.

John Glenn circling the Earth. I believe I saw it in school. It was so historic, they let everyone into the cafeteria, and showed it live (as it was) on TV.

I remember them all. Even the astronauts who burned up in the capsule on the launch pad.

I have very vague memories of watching live as astronauts walked on the moon. Unfortunately, I can't remember specifically which mission it was other than I am pretty sure that it was NOT Apollo 11. I am not quite old enough to remember that one.
