Are some people really even aware that there is no perfect mate? Where is the line between having high standards and just being extremely high maintenance and/or picky?

People let Hollywood define love for them. There IS love, but it isn't part of those phony movies or those damn stupid posters. No one is perfect, not even a mate. I wish people would TRY to grow up about it.

I disagree with you. I have a perfect mate...for me. He is not perfect nor am I..but we are perfect for each other. It has nothing to do with high standards, high maintenance or being picky..it simply has to do with being of like or similar mind, being honest, respectful and kind, and having a certain special "attraction" for each other which develops over time..it is not "love at first sight"..it is "love which develops slowly and becomes deep and abiding". Just my opinion based on my experience. Happy Saturday! :)

A lot of people get their idea of a perfect mate from soap operas and romance novels. I believe there are many possible mates for each person. It's a matter of which one they meet first. Compatibility is highly important as Rosie's post shows. The picky person is often looking for someone to all but worship them and not interested in what they can contribute to a relationship.

How to set the line? Each of us must do that for ourselves. How willing are we to compromise in order to avoid a life alone?
