  • As far as I know, the western rattle snake is the only poisonous snake that lives in Washington state, and it lives in the eastern part of the state. That's not to say that these snakes couldn't or wouldn't migrate west if given the right conditions.
  • According to an articale I once read every sate except Maine has venomus snakes; which I thought a little weird as I don't know how they knwow where the state line is. I believe the threat of them is greatly overblown as most are not aggresive and if don't feel threatened will shy away from humans -be aware of your surroundings. My understanding is that a few amoung them Cottonmouth, Copperheads, and Pygmy Rattler are less than friendly.
  • While for some quite some time Western Wa was able to that they did not have any venomous snakes as of the last year or two there have been sightings of rattle snakes as far in as Dupont which is about 40 miles south of Seattle on I-5.
  • Interestingly, a fellow that I see walking dogs in the woods where I live in Kent, Washington (south of Seattle) told me that he encountered a Pacific Rattlesnake in the woods about dusk yesterday in the woods near Lake Meridian (August 2, 2009). He seemed quite certain of the details. I have yet to see one there for myself.
