There are probably local ordinances against it. What they do here is go out of business as "American" furniture store, and then have a grand opening as "National" furniture store, later followed by "World" furniture store. The same owners, but different legal businesses. Building contractors do the same thing to avoid having to pay lawsuits against shoddy construction.

OMG.. Value City Dept. Store has done this a couple times...a big scam..signs everywhere "going ut of business..last chance..great marketing tool. It's bullsh*t. I wish it was illegal. Customers still buy into it however.
-
That would be false advertising and I don't think that is legal. :)
-
I dunno but the furniture store downtown has been "going out of business" for 5 years =P.
-
Yes, it is.
-
Not sure about illegality.....but surely unethical!!!!
-
I don't think it's criminal but enough complaints to the attorney general's office could put an end to their business for real.

The furniture store up the road was having a "lost-our-lease" sale for a couple months, then those signs went away. They must have gotten their lease back.
