  • It sounds like the vents or drains on the disposal unit have gotten clogged with waste. Probably needs a good cleaning is all. I don't know what type of disposal you have, but depending on the type, you may be able to use a commerical drain cleaner to dissolve the debrie. Hot water may help, too -- boiling hot -- but beware the steam and splash. Use when the disposal is not running.
  • If you have had a lot of potatoe peels or stringy stuff disposed the outlet of the disposal at the 90 degree elbow usually becomes packed. Usually there are only two screws to remove the elbow. So lossen the compression fitting on plumbing where the black elbow enters the house plumbing.. unscrew the two screws holding the elbow to the disposal. and check for debris... But before doing this try filling the disposal with a little liquid detergent and water. Turn on the disposal and with a plumbers helper (Toilet plunger) gently try to pull the blockage back towards the sink... it is possible that this may cause a separation of the compression fittings and maybe a mess if you happen to apply too much pressure while trying to get vacuum. Also if it fails you have more water to drain if you end up having to remove the elbow anyway... well good luck...
