They are either arrested to be processed for deportation or deported immediately. Lately, the "catch and release" policy has been used less often. Why? Because if you simply catch and release illegal immigrants, they turn around and come right back. Now, it's most common that they are processed, fingerprinted and records kept so that second time offenders can be incarcerated if need be without so much hassle.
