  • Unfortunately, no! Since i am not a doctor i did some research by asking some friends who are, i found that brain cells DO NOT regenerate. On the other hand they can DIE easily! How? By having consuming too much alcohol! (any hangovers recently?)
  • Fortunately, yes!
  • Unfortunately no. So you will have to use it to the fullest.
  • Yes and no. You will never grow any new brain cells, but brain cells can develop new connections if portions of the brain are damaged.
  • No, brain cells can not regenerate. But there is something called recruitment, where some nuerons grow new synapses to compensate for other neurons that have died. The only exception to neurons being unable to regenerate is in the nose. The sensory neurons in the nose can regenerate.
  • First and foremost, we need to clarify what exactly is being asked. What exactly is being referred to by "brain cells"? There are many types of brain cells, that perform various tasks. Glilia cells, for example, are support cells for the neurons in our brain, and make up a majority of its mass. Glilia cells do in fact regenerate and, because they are technically part of the brain, would be enough to say that brain cells do regenerate. However, that is not the intention of the question. What is really being asked is, Do neurons in the brain regenerate? The person asking the questions wants to know if the cells that are linked to thinking and consciousness regenerate. The answer to this question is in fact yes. For a very long time it was thought that neurons did not regenerate, however, recent studies have shown that they do. Different types of neurons regenerate in varying capacities, but those in the hippocampus were among the first to be discovered regenerating in the human brain. (Various primates have been shown to regenerate and add neurons throughout the brain). http://www.princeton.edu/pr/pwb/99/0405/brain.htm Another thing to note is that neurons are being generated until the age of three years old. At this age, your brain will have the most neurons it will ever have. After age three, neurons do grow, but not as fast as they die.
  • yes, i used to huff a lot of gasoline, and was just melting my brain away. One day i went totally out there and pretty sure i lost a lot of my brain in one instant. Sense then I will never be the same, but much of my brain has regenerated, I can talk a lot better, but memories are things that are extremely hard or impossible to regain.
  • despite popular belief, yes, brain cells regenerate.. i dont know where these retards got their information.
  • Yes, it's possible but in a very limited scope. It is not yet fully understood how or when excatly this occurs. It brain cells regenerated like normal cells we wouldn't see diseases such as parkinsons and head trauma wouldn't have the lasting effects it does. The regrowth of neurons does not equal repair or replacement of all the dead/damaged cells in the brain, merely only some. Additionally if the cells die when an individual is young enough, other areas of the brain can step in and take over certain functions (language for example).
