Volunteering should be beneficial to you as well as to the beneficiary. Mostly your benefit will be emotional: satisfaction at doing some good/assisting someone. You could also get physical benefit by volunteering in an activity (walking/riding/biking/swimming for......... or assisting a challenged person in some activity). The main criteria for your volunteering efforts to be successful to you and the beneficiary is that you have to have a great interest/passion, concern and like for whatever you are going to volunteer for. Otherwise, you will soon feel it is a burden and the world would be worse off for losing another volunteer. I guarantee - when you volunteer, you are going to meet a lot of really great people, you are going to feel really appreciated and (hopefully) you are going to have a good time and know that you are making the world a better place.
