If you work in a busy place. Newcomers often get dead shifts, Mon. night,Tues.lunch, etc. It's a job that requires the ability to work hard and fast at times. Getting to know your regulars is important. "Usual, Mr. Jones?". Keep your eyes on your customers, I hate to be waiting for service while the bartender is gossiping with the busboy at the other end. You need to be able to put up with some obnoxious behavior, but you must also know where to draw the line. If you have never done it before, a course will probably be helpful. Make sure any course includes the section on dealing with drunks/overserving, etc. Many places require that you be certified in that subject. Good luck!

You can make a lot of money bartending if you are good at it. I went to to Maryland Bartending Academy (http://www.marylandbartending.com) and got a great job right out of school. Now I don't even have to work 2 jobs anymore.

Its a great job! Where are you going to get a job making 150.00 to 200.00 or more a night? Plus a check? You must be responsible cut people off, call cabs, no under age serving etc.I love my job. I worked for a doctors office before I studied to become a bartender. No money in office work. I ordered an on line course it only cost me 37.00.Bartendingexposed.com Now I am bartending at a local collage bar. Yes bartending is a good paying job. I pay my tuition at school, apt, insurance etc. and have extra money to save. hope this info was helpful
