  • Brilliant scientist. Many inventions and discoveries can be used for good or for evil. The person using it determines that, not the inventor.
  • Brilliant scientist. His work on gravitational collapsed stars was crucial to modern physics. As for his involvement with the A Bomb whilst it could be seen as despicable he was certainly not the only one involved and more so felt his work was essential given the work the Nazis and later Soviet Union were undertaking (though he was a great deal cooler on the H Bomb idea). Ultimately though a person's morals do not have much bearing on their intellectual achievements. Newton was reputedly a very cold and nasty man but his science was brilliant.
  • Brilliant scientist. Yes he knew what he was doing, but in the end his weapon saved millions of lives in ending WWII and millions during the cold war. Without nukes, Russia and the West would have gone to war several times over.
  • i don't want to hear any more about who MIGHT have been saved. there is no proof of that. however, there is proof that hundreds of thousands WERE killed. civilians. the bombing of japan was a terrorist act, despite trying to dress it up in patriotism. the point is, the technology was developed by oppenheimer and his team, not for good, but for the sole purpose of killing. he CHOSE to use his gift of intelligence in the service of mass destruction of innocent lives. he sold his soul for a paycheck and EVERYONE PAYS. people in this country decry nuclear power plants as dangerous and not a word is mentioned about their viability as alternative energy in recent discussions. yet no one seems to have a problem with the missiles or the man.
