My laptop won't acquire an IP address when attempting to connect to my parents wireless network. How can I fix this?

Make sure you are using the correct wireless key and encryption method.

Check if dhcp is enabled on the router, and also if your laptop has been set to obtain ip and dns automatically. http://uits.iu.edu/page/aiyy You've given no indication of the OS or setup so help is limited.

If you have the right key as JaneG has suggest, then you might try the follow which is to release & renew connection start run>cmd ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew you may have to wait a little bit between the two as they release & renew, it sometimes only takes 30 sec's or 1-2 mins

maybe your parents need to add you to the account.
