To become more narrowminded, one could refuse to educate himself, refuse to step out of his comfort zone, refuse to interact with people who aren't his "normal crowd", refuse to question himself and others, refuse to admit that his ideas/ways might be wrong...

it takes little effort really...staying open minded takes more effort, like studying, reading,considering, debating,travelling, mixing and all those culturally stimulating exercises.
