  • Demeter caused the first winter due to her depression from not being with her only daughter Persephone. Hermes had kidnapped Persephone, Demeter's only daughter. Zeus ordered Hermes to bring Persephone back to Demeter; however, after Hermes tricked Persephone into eating the food of the dead, causing her to die, Zeus decreed that for half of the year Persephone would be with Hermes but that she must return to Demeter for the other half. When Persephone's in the Underworld with Hades, that's when winter occurs.
  • Because she was looking everywhere for Persephone who had been spirited to the underworld by Hades. She was so distraught that winter came into the world.
  • Becuase Hades stole Persephone, her only daughter, and when she called to Zeus to help and he refused she took it out her depression and her anger on the seasons of humanity thus creating winter as her season of depression when Persephone returns to the underworld with Hades
