Besides hold the the Continental Army together with string and inspiration during the revolution, his decisions as president concerning the office made it what it is today. He could have been king and he certainly could have claimed more power for the administrative branch, but he didn't. Almost every thing he did was a first and most of it is still what presidents do. He was a truly gifted leader.
