Supposedly salt has some natural antiseptic properties, but I've had my share of canker sores and salt has never once helped mine.
If you want to get rid of them, as much as it hurts scrub the area with peroxide and then use a gel made for the sores. It'll be gone in less than 24 hours :)
Lemon works to , but salt is more painful
Rinsing your mouth with salty water helps with all types of mouth ailments, not sure what a canker sore is though;0)
no they tell you to do that to prevent, because they can be caused by bacteria in or mouth along with stress and other random things. The best way to heal it I hound is to crush up a tylenol pill and put it right on the sore and hold it there as long as possible. it tastes like crap but mine are normally gone with in a day or two vrs. a week or two waiting it out.

Well my mom (a nurse) said that salt is kinda like witch hazel. Like it constricts the sore or whatever. And I'm not even sure it is a canker sore. I just know something inside my mouth hurts. It actually looks kinda like a blister. And I didn't know you could put peroxide in your mouth!! It actually did occur to me to use that though.

You sure can, I actually was prescribed that by a doctor once when I bit a hole in my tongue (long story), you just can NOT swallow it :)
