  • Several years ago, in the local paper of my old home town, there were a rash of stories about elderly folks being found dead in their homes after their bodies had rotted down to skeletons. The utilities were long cut off, folks had noticed a smell and no one had checked. The utility workers didn't knock on the door when they went to cut off the power and water. The neighbors never looked in. It didn't happen once, but probably four or five times in a few months. I found that to be absolutely appalling. I don't ever want that to happen in my neighborhood. This morning, my husband and I got going early. We've baked bread and muffins, we cooked all the food in the fridge. You can eat cold food, but you can't eat it raw. I've called all our elderly and single friends to make sure they have power, or if not, a source of heat. I've told all of them that we have a generator and food cooked and we'll come get them if they need to come here. I'm hoping that some of my AB friends are doing the same. There are so many people out there who don't have any family, or live far away from family, and I don't like to think of them alone and cold.
