Its legal, unfortunately, and I'm quite addicted so I probably couldn't quit even if I knew I was going to wake up dead tomorrow.

Well,if very shortly means more than the last 28 years, how how much longer is that? I started at 13/14 and have been every day(OK maybe a few here and there when I would be hospitalized) but almost every day since. It hasn't affected my life so far.

Bad habit

I forgot to get off at the end smoking stop!

to relax, to deal with stress, to get away from work for even a few mins. they don't necessarily kill you sooner. my great grandmother died at 90+ not from smoking but from dementia

1: Because I choose to. 2: Becuase although I know of the dangers, I smoke responsibly. That is, enough to shorten my lifespan, but socially, occasionally, of my own volition (so fight wanting a fag (from addiction mental or physical) alone, and all the time.) It can be done. 3: Because rolling tobacco is (yes, damn bad for you) but fairly natural. Should the American Indians never have smoked their home grown herb? Where would storytelling be without it. Same with weed. 4: It looks damn cool (to some people). Naive, perhaps, but very artistic and intellectual. Relaxes you, makes you lucid, chatty and social if with other ppl.

I don't smoke, I used to, and feel very sorry for those that can't give up. Not directed at you by any means, I don't have much patience for ignorant people that make flipant remarks like 'people should give up' as if it's so easy, it is a really difficult thing to do, and if it were easy to give up, I'm sure there'd be a world of 'non-smokers' - smoking does not 'kill' every person that partakes in smoking

You got a reason why I should want to live?
-
I like it. It's my custom. You have your customs...and I have mine.

Life wil kill you very shortly too... at best 100yrs. In the annuls of history what does it matter if one dies at 50 or 90? Enjoy your life and enjoy your death... it's simple.

I've been smoking for 60 years...and have needed the services of a physician only three times in the last 30 years! I'm almost 71 years old. Is that your definition of "very shortly"? OK, I can live with that! In fact, had I bought into the anti-smoking thing, I probably would have been dead years ago. Bottom line, I'm happy...very happy...have had a fantastic life where I would never go back and change one thing. Can you honestly say the same?

You make it sound like if you take a puff or two, you'll instantly drop dead. I do it because it's my choice.
