I reckon that either the distribution is relatively even over a batch and possibly you could be biased in what you are seeing without realising it :) or... they do it to make you buy more :)

I think the people at the factories must be taking the red ones for themselves! I bet they're all having a ball at the plant, licking their red smarties and rubbing them on their lips to make lipstick, on their off hours they mock their friends, "you only have three reds, I have 103, ha, ha, ha" You must be from Canada!

I had a box of Smarties once... it was the summer of 1996... my parents brought them back for me after their honeymoon... but I would have to agree with beenaroundtheblock... the factory employees and their red smarties parties.... i have the same problem in a bag of M&M's... lots of browns, but no green or orange ones... I get so depressed.... :(
