AR, I'm not sure where the criticism is coming from ... I'm an American living in the US, and my generally low opinion of my fellow countrymen's awareness of the world beyond their own horizons is pretty well earned. Is it bigotry when I see this lack of awareness ALL THE TIME? Maybe it is, but at least it's still all in the family.

Interesting question, AR. Does one have a choice? Would a textbook be meaningful? What would be the principles upon which you would base the taking of the oath? Has anyone ever taken an oath of office using anything other than a holy book..a book of faith..a book representing a particular religion? I personally would use the Bible. It is what I know. It is how I was raised. It is what is meaningful to me. Happy Monday! :)
