The most important tip I can give is to be realistic. Too often these days, businesses start up with a great idea but a terrible business plan.

Just do something. So many people have a 'dream' and never do anything. Go out and do something and get your hands dirty, you only live once.

Always have a contingency plan, sometimes things don't always work out no matter how promising they look on paper. Be diligent about keeping records. Think about creative ways to promote your business. Most importantly, don't hire any friends unless you know for sure they are able to keep friendship and a business relationship separate.
