Because Miss Black America is ethnically concentrated, whereas Miss America is for everybody, regardless of ethnicity. I would have thought that'd be pretty obvious.
-
It's kinda in that title there. If you want equality, what about Miss America for Everyone Who Is Not Eligible To Enter the Miss Black America contest? And how about Mr Universe For Those Who Arent Muscle Bound, Steroid Popping Freaks of Nature and Can Actually Fit Through Doorways the Nomral Way Around Without Leaving a Cartoon Outline In It?
-
white and hispanic women are not black americans, so they couldn't be "miss black america". black and hispanic americans are american, so they could be "miss america". what's your question here?
-
The idea of having Miss Black America is itself exclusionist.
-
Probably because it is called the Miss Black America henceforth the contestants would all be blacks. If you want equality you would have to start a Miss Hispanic America pageant, a Miss Asian America pageant, a Miss White America pageant, etc.
-
If there were a Miss White America it would be called racist. Sad but true.
-
Your right its just a ridiculous thing. Its almost like Blacks are being racist against themselves. Its like they are saying that a black woman couldn't win Miss America so we have to have our own. Thats simpily not true because Erica Dunlap won Miss America a couple years ago and she's black.

It is a simple fact that the association of fair skin with wealth and prestige means that fair skin is prized over dark skin. The overwhelming majority of models and actresses who are rated by the public as "beautiful" are light skinned. Therefore a dark skinned woman would has little chance in an open contest. I know that a few enter, but they don't win. Therefore they organize separate contests for dark skinned women. There is no need for a Miss White America contest because the Miss America contest is effectively culturally biassed to be Miss White America.

Recall, that for a long time, we did have a miss white america pageant, we just didn't call it that.. check your history..how many black americans females were in the pageants, say, before 1970 or so.. as a matter of fact, we had white entertainment television, but of course, it wasn't called that. Don't get me wrong, I am a christian, I love my neighbors (all) and we are all children of God, thus, we are all brothers. But there was a time that if blacks did not unite as one, they would have perished as a race. Out of that era, came all of these "black" concepts; i.e., black entertainment television, miss black america, etc. Although your point is understood, don't be so quick to say "racists" or "bigots".. when this is the very thing that started it. It is, and will always be, a reaction to the world we live (or lived) in. You might say that we don't live in that world anymore, but even that is arguable; but I urge you to understand where these concepts came from, and somehow, find it in your heart to applaud a race that has struggled to rise to a place that has always been taken for granted by another race. It is a celebration of beauty in a place that blacks, native americans, or asians were not always recognized.

I see your point. If a "Miss White America" contest was held, the cries of "white supremacist" and "racist" would be sounded.
-
It is a well known fact that there is no such thing as equality. It's just as non-existant as the Loch Ness Monster and God's mercy.
-
Funny thing there actually was a time that Miss America could not be won by a black, or any other "minority" for that matter, and not because they were not deserving of it. It was brought about during a time when irregardless of the fact that "minorities should have been allowed to enter, the possibility of recieving the crown was all but non-attainable. I have to say the pageant is now probably out dated and those putting it on should consider disc. it, but I do find it amazing that the very culture that brought about the reasons for developing it, are the ones who are critisizing.

why the hell white people tryin to still black people shine get the hell over it it's to show black women are beautiful in a world that says you have to be blue eyed blond haired caucasion like and skinny

It is not politically correct to be proud to be white. You can only be proud to be your race if you are black or hispanic. If you say you are proud to be white then people act like you are saying the other races are inferior when in fact you are just happy the way you are and would be happy if you were born another race. As for the miss america, it is for all races. There is a black miss america and a latino miss america, but heaven forbid if we said white miss america we would by law have to allow any other race to participate or it would be racist.

There are black and hispanic contestants in the Miss American pageant today, but that has not always been the case. For the first two-thirds of Miss America pageant history, written rule number seven was that contestants "must be healthy and must be of the white race" (check for yourself). Miss Black America pageant was only in response to the racism that was first created by the Miss America pageant, which very well could have been called "Miss White America" because that is exactly what it was. Yes, times have changed, but you have to do your homework before you just assume black people are trying to divide themself from everyone else. They were DIVIDED by the original pageant first and that is a fact.
