I've had a tire blow out twice, on a freeway. Fortunately traffic was light both times. I definitely needed to pull over to the side of the road. (^_^) Once my engine overheated and DIED while I was driving in the left lane in heavy traffic in downtown L.A. I lost power steering and had to get a large heavy car over to the right shoulder. Know what? The L.A. drivers ALLOWED ME TO DO IT. Most of the folks on freeways out here are sensible and well-intentioned people. I've pulled over sometimes if someone else and I were making the same trip together but in two different vehicles and we lost sight of each other (this was before cell phones). I've pulled over to change drivers or to get sandwiches out of a cooler.

Well I wasn't driving at the time but my boyfriend and I had to pull over to have a "quickie". It wasn't quite working out while he was driving, so pulling over was the next best thing.

I pull over if I have to dial out on my phone/or text. If I need to make a call (unless 911) It's not important enough for me to wreck. I wait until I get home or wherever I'm going, or I just pull over. :) Same with answering, unless I'm expecting a call, and I feel It's a safe enough place to look away from the road for 2 seconds, then I'll answer. Just depends, I guess :)
