I believe I have a qualification in first aid floating around somewhere....
-
I was a member of St John's Ambulance for 5 years, during which time I did first aid training of various types. I also did basic diving first aid as part of a BSAC diving course. Then, I worked in a hospital in both the operating theatres and in the physiotherapy department for a year, and still go back during the holidays. These jobs have enabled me to gain lots of health care experience in the acute setting, as well as many techniques that I will enhance during my training, such asintubating and cannulating patients. I am currently studying medicine at Newcastle University, UK, and will start my clinical years in August. So in 3 years time, I will be a qualified doctor. Until then, I can advise only, on those subjects on which I have been taught, but must remember my own limitations and abilities, and would not offer aduvice on subjects that I was not confident on. Because I am a student, I cannot under any circumstances legally diagnose, prescribe or treat anyone, unless under the supervision of a fully qualified professional. Yet. Because of my training and my previous jobs, I have also been trained multiple times on basic life support as well, including CPR.
