Give them something that will be an experience instead of an item. For a woman, a gift card for a spa day, or individual services like a massage or mani pedi, would be nice. For a guy, consider an experience that will go with his interests. My husband got his best friend private golf lessons for christmas, and he loved it. It was less expensive than you might think. Arrange for them to take a trip in a hot-air balloon. Get them tickets to a concert or sporting event you think they'd enjoy. Focus on the experience aspect and you can't go wrong.
