  • I hate those 'to what extent' questions, they assume that everything falls on the same scale. There are different issues shaped by politics, different ones shaped by religion, different ones shaped by science and even more shaped by a cross between two or even all of them. Abortion, though, would be the one I'd pick as an example. Religion hindered the Bush admin from making abortion legal, because the people demanded it. Logic says that if this women accidentally falls pregnant, or is even raped and falls pregnant, that she has the choice to abort. Religion says that God intended for her to have a baby, raped or not, financially secure or not, mentally sane or not, and she must give birth.
