I'm sorry to say that I have seen abuse from both sides of my family and I can tell you that it is a learned habit....habit is not the right word, more like a "tool" that a man (or a woman) uses in a situation when they react with violence. They have run out of things to say, to do other than to resort to violence. My ex wife's family had three daughters and after I divorced her for abusing me, I found out that the same thing was happening in the two sisters family as well. They learned it from their mother! Just like men learn it from their father!

Mostly its the belief they are superior to their wives are are willingly to raise their hand to them if they disagree.

the feel insecure and inadequate, so they beat the wife to feel like they have power. Thats why extreme jeaulousy and constant allegations of cheating are always present with domestic violence.

Anyone who is violent, outside of being mentally challenged, of course, is violent because of their own lack of self-worth and/or self-control. Perhaps they were raised in a violent home, as many studies support, perhaps they abuse drugs and/or alcohol? No matter the reason, it is a serious problem that affects many women from all walks of life,and more should be done for those who abuse and for those who continually allow themselves to be abused.

I think there are several reasons why men are abusive to their wives or girlfriends. These might be some: 1. They grew up witnessing their father being abusive to their mother and learned the behavior, 2. They were abused by a parent or someone else, 3. They are mentally ill, 4. Their culture/country/religion encourages this horrible behavior because they don't want women to own property or have any power.
