  • I think there is an argument for cannibalism in your question. Some people might take your phrase 'we are made to eat both animals and plants' as describing the object of our design. Clearly, we can eat just about anything; some people eat astounding things, but you raised ethics and ethics want to know about should. Ethics does not require us to give our sustenance to another species. You will find information on the business of meat production and consumption and its negative effects on the planet and personal health easy to come by. There are many healthy vegetarians in the world. Mass production and slaughter of animals devalues their lives and ours. Do you fancy the idea of personally killing for every piece of meat you eat from now on? Maybe, if not, its because as is biblically stated, God has written his law in your heart.
  • We are assumed to be more intelligent than animals. I lion doesn't have much choice in what it eats. You do. It is your choice to kill animals, or have someone do the dirty work for you as they suffer under horrendous conditions. 18% of greenhouse gas is due to the meat and dairy industry...more than all cars combined. Were you joking about eating plants taking food and habitat away from another animal? It takes at least TEN times as many plants to make a pound of meat, not to mention the water pollution and use! Are you saying that it is better or more ethical to take ten times than one? You question how it is ethical to not unnecessarily kill? Isn't killing for fun or selfishness unethical?
  • Your question confuses the facts. Almost all the animals you eat came from the deliberate raising of livestocks. These animals don't starve to death because 80% of corn, 80% of grains and 95% of oates is NOT planted for human consumption but to feed the livestock animals to be slaughtered on your behalf; whilst the rest of the third world goes hungry. Is this ethical or selfishness gone out of control? Also when you or I or an animal die of old age, it is not frightening, cruel, bloody and painful like as if you or I or an animal is being slaughtered in a fully healthy stage of life before our time to go. When an animal dies before it's time by being slaughtered by you, the whole system is shaken up.
