Help answer this question below.
i have had my sps for about a month now and i can tell you that it is pretty spot on, how ever i did check it just the other night for the free float and as many have mentioned the rifle is freefloated if being used in hand as soon as you place it on a sand bag or a bipod the barrel does touch the very tip of the stock. I have found a vesry simple but effective way arounjd it. remove rifle from stock-get a PATATO PEALER?? yes a patato pealer and scrape some rubber from the stock gully ate the very end i had to do it three times dissasamble-assamble but that was just coz i did not want to take too much out of it and leave a massive gap inbetween my barrel and stock end. Once you are satisfied your clearence inbetween the barrel and stock in sufficient reassamble the rifle and try your grouping again.
Yes, the Rem SPS is supposed to have a free floating barrel.
The SPS is supposed to be in a stock with an aluminum bedding block.
The aluminum block rarely fits the action perfectly, so some owners
discard the stock. If you do so, please send it to me!
The SPS stock needs to have pillars put in and the receiver bedded
full length. .
This will allow the rifle to reach it's full potential without serious
machine work.
Get your hands on one and take a dollar bill and if you can slide it between the barrel and stock all the way down to the receiver, then yes it does. I would be more conserned whether or not the barrel is button rifled. More accurate from rifle to rifle. Hammer Forging only came about for one reason...cost reduction. But even a hammer forger barrel can give excellent accuracy...just not as cosistantly from rifle to rifle.
i think so almost all the new guns have floated barrels
