Solid wood (plank) is good, a cheaper option is laminate wooden flooring. Avoid lino like the plague!

AS long as your not on soild wood floor ur good. My best friend that did ballet with me fell on the wood floor and broke her ankle.

A solid wooden floor.Sprung is a more usual surface today. Wood has a certain amount of give and is a little kinder to the joints. Concrete and tiles covered are not a good surface.

The best type of floor for ballet is a sprung or floating floor with marely over it. Check out stagestep.com for more information about it. If you don't have a marley floor covering, a sprung or floating floor would be best. The floor must have some give or you will hurt your knees when you jump. Never, ever even with marley flooring on top dance over concrete. http://stagestep.com/flooring_surfaces_quietstep.php
