  • The upsides are that people would be able to understand the question more clearly and the site would look better The sownside is that it would take a long time to go through every question and correct every question
  • Yes. I find it sometimes really hard to read questions and answers when they are written with "crapmar". We don't want garbage answers and questions on here. Who likes grammar, spelling and punctuation like this: liek tis kind o gramma is crappy and i think it sux. Come to think of it, I'll make another club. Anti-Crapmar-Club!
  • Absolutely not - would become a task of Herculean proportions....beside some people use poor spelling, incorrect punctuation and bad grammer deliberately to make a point (I don't know what the point is apart from poor writing skills - but?)so, for a moderator to correct it would be not only time consuming and soul destroying for them but may take away the "flavour" of the question put forward by the asker.
  • Absolutely not. It would take way too much time. If I cannot understand what the question is I either ask or tell them I don't understand. Most of us can pretty much figure it out.
  • No, it often demonstrates just as much about the writer as the content of his post.
  • No, we would have more AB users out here that would may feel belittled, insulted or embarrassed to see there question corrected. Not to mention the time it would take an AB Moderator to make the corrections.
  • Having done this for awhile in the early days of AB, I can say it IS a monumental task as someone else mentioned. SPELLING: At the very least spelling should be corrected, it drives me nuts to see sibling turn into cibling. The text message h8, ur, u, 4, stuff needs to go. If questions are easier to understand it is good for the asker and the answerer. Also the spelling errors make it harder to spot duplicates. PUNCTUATION: should be corrected to the extent that a question mark is added when necessary and an overabundance of exclamation marks is removed. GRAMMAR: I forget who said it, but if I recall correctly, Joel or Rich (maybe neither but I think it was Joel) said something about trying to keep the questions/answers as close to to the original as possible so it sounded like how THAT person would ask a question (something like that). Having seen qyestions and answers after they had been edited and comparing questions/answers by the same person I could really see that the individuality of the person asking/answering was completely lost. As much as it pains me, the grammar really shouldn't be corrected. Plus grammar usage varies within the same language (such as US and UK).
  • i honestly think people are worrying too much about grammer. people write the way they do to express themselves, or because they dont know how to use proper grammer, or because they are tryin to shorten words to fit into a question (since you only have so much space). plus, if people are going through and re-writing questions, their question could end up being something that they werent tryin to ask.
  • No, let each person write as they like and those that write in sms we can openly hassle.
