Yes. Ultraviolet rays of the sun cause chromosomal damage to the skin over time and can lead to skin cancers. As the face is exposed more to the sun than other parts of the body it ranks high on the list where melanomas, (skin cancers)form. Other places would be on the legs, neck, back of neck and shoulders, any part of the body that suffers from unprotected exposure to the sun over a long period of time. People with fair, light skin are more prone to skin cancers as their skin is less prepared for the sun. Evolution and migration of peoples skin from dark to white makes those who have not enough darkening pigment in the skin called melan, have greater risk for skin cancers.
