There are different poses, but you should select the one that suits.. for ex if u have back pain, there are certain postures you should avoid. Better consult an expert before trying out yoga . Plz remeber, doing the wronf excercise can do more harm than good

There is a pose called "tadasana" or the Mountain pose. It improves the posture. This is one you can start with, but again the bad effects can include headache . So as suggested, better consult an exxpert before starting on anything. chk http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/492_1.cfm for details

I think it depends on what your posture is like now. Do you slump (rounded shoulders, head tipped forward) or do are you swayed back (if you stand against a wall and can easily slide your hand between your lumbar spine and the wall). There are different poses to improve both of these postures. For the slumpers - Locust Pose or Cobra Pose to strengthen the muscles that are slumping. Both train the midback to hold the shoulder blades in their normal position, which is down away from the ears and flat against the back ribs. For the swayers - its really the hips that are too tight. If you sit for many hours every day without stretching your hip flexors regularly, they will gradually lose their normal length, causing the pelvis to tilt forward when you’re standing. A strong tilt usually causes excessive swayback, which contributes to chronic tightness and pain in the lower back muscles. To counteract, focus on lengthening and stretching tight hip flexors. Lunges and Warrior I work. Exercises like curl-ups and crunches strengthen the abs.

Most of yoga will help posteur it is rather like ballet you bring yourself up from your diaphram, good breathing helps good health and posteur. Not well described I am afraid

Most of them do, as they strengthen your core muscles. The most effective for posture would be those that are opposite your normal daily activities (so anything opening the chest and front of your shoulders, strengthening the back, opening the front of the hips, etc.) If you do a balanced array of asanas, your posture will improve. Imagine a string pulling your head up out from your spine, and that will help any pose be a posture-strengthener.

Bow, Cobra, Wheel are good initial postures that will help. work on core stability muscles which will give you greater strength in everything the body does - double leg raises are good. loosen your hamstrings - eg. sitting forward bend - it will help take away over compensation in your back. improve slowly and steadily and you will definitely improve your posture.
