If you are going to mask a watercolor painting, Don't use the film, use the liquid frisket and paint it on. If you have to mask off large blocks, use the film and hold it over the area and just cut with scissors and then do the detailed edges with the liquid frisket. The film doesn't stick very well and water color will bleed under it at the edges. If you only have the film, cut it very lightly with a brand new xacto blade. Don't even cut through the film, just score it and "tear it away in pieces. Then press/rub the edges down with a spoon. This is called "burnishing." That way the paint won't leak under the edges.
