  • I think it's a great idea. Let's use English. Many people speak English, even if they don't live in an English-speaking country.
  • BORING. Besides, learning different languages is good for you. It exercises your noggin and makes you more aware of different countries, regions, and cultures.
  • I don't think it is realistic in our time, but with the internet and global business, something close is happening. English, Chinese and Japanese are spoke by a very large portion of the world. Most of Europe speaks English, if even as a second or third language. It is taught in nearly every school at a young age. Japanese and Chinese are spoke in Asia predominately, and across much of the business world. I think we are on our way to having a few dominate languages, but I don't think native languages will ever die. The world has gotten much smaller in the past few decades and people need to be able to communicate in more ways than before.
  • well its already english, japan, germany, norway, pretty much all of europe have to learn english as a second language. in 100 years time i think everyone will speak english fluently
  • A loss of language is also a loss of culture and history. I don't think it would be beneficial to the world to have a universal language.
  • As long as it is English - chuckle. Actually, we can't even agree on that one. I think it would be more confusing and frustrating than the current state of affairs. I'd rather that the great thinker perfect the universal translators like they had on Star Trek.
  • I think it would be neat to be able to go anywhere and be able to know what's going on... but I don't think it should be English. American English is very common in other countries, but it's one of the hardest languages to learn and has no beauty to it. I much prefer a root language, one that if you learn you can pretty much discern most languages, such as Latin, Spanish, etc. Once you know one of those languages, the other languages make sense because they are usually derived from adaptations or root words of that language. I think learning a Core language as a Universal language would be more beneficial than learning English which seems to stick out on the world scene like a sore thumb.
  • It'd be pretty boring. I'm fascinated when I hear people speaking another language.
  • We already have a universal language, it's called Love
  • Everyone in the world should have the opportunity to learn at least two foreign languages and stay in touch with them (for instance through TV and books, but nowadays the internet can also help). The more languages you know, the more lives you have. For instance, most cats know the following nine languages: cat, bird, mouse, fish, human, cow, horse, rat and bat. A pity they don't know dog.
  • isn't that what esperanto tried to do? it didnt work on a huge scale
