The meaning of the song is pretty clear: God says in Exodus 20:3 "You shall have no other gods before me". That is one of the ten commandments. Your god is whoever or whatever you value most important to you; it could be your job, your career, your finances, your husband or your wife, your boyfriend or girlfriend, sex drugs or Rock-n'Roll. It can even be yourself...yes, you can be your own god if you fell as though you were the center of the Universe. Listen, in the end, there will be no doubt as to Who is the one true God. (that's what God's word says) it says:

Phil. 2:9-11 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Now, it may feel right to follow your own path and do your own thing for now but, know that in the end, there is only one way to heaven. Prov. 14:12 says: "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. " Also, in John 14:6, Jesus said these words: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

I hope and pray that people everywhere will turn from following their idols and false gods and turn to the one true God , and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, before it's too late....time is running out and, as the bible says, in 2 Corinthians 6:2

"Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. "

Acts 17:30-31 says: "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

Lay Down Your gods (Lyrics)

I say, I finally found the truth
When I opened up the book god's written
You say, I’m just another fool
Who believes a man-made fairytale
I know, the god I serve is true
Cause he doesn't lay there six feet under
Before you get too far away

Lay down, lay down, lay down your gods
Open your eyes
Then put your life on the line
Lay down, lay down, lay down your gods
Don't waste your time
You've got to lay down your gods

Tell me, oh when your life is through
Will the gods you serve be there to save you?
I know
That Jesus is reality
Not some false religious dream
Don't let them steal your soul away

Lay down, lay down, lay down your gods
Follow the one
The way, the truth and the life
Lay down, lay down, lay down your gods
Don’t waste your time
You've got to lay down your gods

The old gods??? as in "powerless to save gods" or as in "fun to serve while you're alive gods" but "not save my soul from damnation gods" ?? not sure i follow your drift here...maybe you can shed some light on your own comment?
Thanks

No problem, always happy to help. :) I'm a Heathen, which means I follow the spiritual teachings of my pre-Christian Norse ancestors. For a nice well-written article, see the following, written by someone who follows Hellenismos (pre-Christian Greek religion) for reasons why: http://www.winterscapes.com/sannion/why_believe.htm

Christian song declaring the Christian god is the only one and to not be misled by false gods. Accept J.C. as your savior.
