  • Yes. They are breeding ground for many kinds of critters. Some of them are bad for people with allergies. They are harder to clean and may retain humidity, creating habitat for mold and bacteria.
  • I think so, because it woulds trap all kinds of dirt and be teeming with micro biological life. Tiles would be easy to wipe/ mop/ disinfect, so they would be a lot cleaner. I don't think anyone would have their carpet cleaned everyday.
  • id assume so, tiles can only have a small amount of bacteria on them before it becomes apparent where as carpet can keep all the germs and stains deep within the fibre's which are virtually impossible to get without destroying them with steam to kill it all.
  • Yupper! Carpet and the underlying Pad holds all sorts of unhygenic goodies. From common dirt, to bacteria...potty (from the puppy/kitten)food debris and then the LIVE critters, dust mites, and assorted other mites, dead human skin...it's quite the gross buffet of unwanted delights! Tile, Marble and even plain wood, is far less dangerous in holding on to such nasty things! (Wood floors would need to be well sealed, or they too can absorb a goodly amount of bacteria.)
  • Maybe go for the tile and lay down area rugs. Depending on the size of your room, you could even go for rugs small enough to be laundered. Or if they're bigger, you can at least beat them outdoors on a regular basis. Or replace them (rag rugs from old cloths and rags, is an idea for something less wasteful).
