  • Buy a magasine dedicated to music, such as (in Britain) Kerrang or NME. I don't know about other country's publications, but I daresay similar publications can be found. Near the back (usually) you will find a list of requests for musical talent. Simply respond to one of the adverts, and pass whatever audition they have planned for you, and hey presto - you're in a band! If you can't get ahold of a magasine, try newspapers, or putting an offer of your services on a local messageboard, such as can sometimes be found at post offices, community centres, libraries and newsagents. If you can't find a suitable opportunity, don't be disheartened - simply wait for the next edition of the magasine!
  • Try craigslist on the Internet!! it's awesome
  • Try your local independent music magazines. You can usually find these publications at supermarkets, music stores and clubs. Many offer free classifieds to people looking for new band members. Another cool place would be garageband.com. While using the Internet is cool, how often are you actually going to find the band around the corner who needs a new you? Another good way is to use the bulliten boards at your favorite coffee shop or hangout. Sometimes the "Bassist Needed" ads cover the whole wall!
  • In addition to the other answers, why not try placing an advert yourself? Briefly detail your instrumental/ vocal skills, the type of music you want to play, maybe a few bands that influence you and ask bands with missing singers/drummers/bass players/whatevever to contact you.
  • You should try http://bandmaking.com. I am working on this site to help musicians out in all sorts of ways, especially to help you find the right people to jam with. Good luck! -Frank
  • The other answers offer excellent advice. Here is another suggestion - your local musical instrument shop probably has a bulletin board or wall where bands advertise for members and players advertise their availability. I have seen this in stores in my hometown.
  • I use Formingbands.com. I find it's quite popular, and simple to use
